Applications are now being accepted through April 1 for “Better Job Opportunities,” a 12-week course beginning April 13 to help job seekers land new jobs or strengthen their computer skills for future promotion. Classes are presented in three-hour sessions twice weekly for 12 weeks with M-W and T-Th options held at the David B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center in West Bloomfield, a division of JVS.
Students receive 72 hours of hands-on classroom training (two 3-hour sessions per week for 12 weeks) that covers Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel®, PowerPoint®, Access®, Publisher and Outlook®. The program also includes job preparedness training and seminars. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of proficiency.
The course fee is $720; however, students who are unemployed or underemployed may qualify for scholarships made available through funding from ORT Michigan and The Jewish Fund. Space is limited and an application is required for eligibility. The David B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center is located inside the Jewish Community Center at 6600 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield.
