JVS recently won the 2017 Excellence in Southfield Sustainability Award, awarded to a business leader who has shown dedication and commitment to green innovation. In presenting the award, Southfield Mayor Kenson Siver highlighted two JVS recycling initiatives: eCycle Opportunities and the “Green Team.”
eCycle Opportunities (ECO) is a JVS subsidiary that has recycled more than 200 tons of electronics since its launch in 2015. ECO helps keep e-waste out of landfills, protects the private data of individuals and businesses and provides jobs for people with barriers to employment.
The Green Team, established in 2017, consists of 15 volunteer staff members who are passionate about recycling. The team’s goal is to make recycling convenient for co-workers at JVS. The first phase of their green initiative was to start recycling paper products (such as paper, cardboard, paperboard, magazines, etc.) at our Southfield headquarters.
The award was presented at the Southfield Chamber of Commerce annual Excellence in Southfield Awards dinner in November.
